NC State signee Rodney Purvis and his USA Basketball teammates used a second-half surge to pull away from host Brazil to post a 81-56 victory in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship gold medal game.
Playing just a little over 13 minutes, Purvis scored four points to go along with two assists and two steals to help the United States to the victory.
The Americans held a slim six-point lead over the Brazilians, 37-31, at the half. However, the U.S. squad outscored the host team, 44-25, over the final two quarters. It was the U.S. team’s second win over Brazil in three days, defeating the host country, 84-63, on Monday.
