After taking an official visit to West Point the weekend of January 5th and 6th, Scott Washle, a middle linebacker our of Cardinal Gibbons High School School in Raleigh, N.C., gave his verbal pledge to the Black Knights staff. Washle took time to speak with ArmySports.com about his decision.

"Army offered me in November," said Washle. "They loved how well I play to the ball. They mentioned my quickness and how fast I play the game. I was someone they thought would be very successful in the program.

"The visit [to West Point] was outstanding. We toured the facilities; the Kimsey Center, the football complex, the training facilities, weightlifting facilities. Then we got to see where the cadets live on campus. It was all top notch. The linebackers coach is a great guy. He seems like a real player's coach. I also had a lot of fun interacting with my player-host, Brian Zalneraitis, and the other recruits who were there. Before I left I gave my verbal commitment to Coach Ellerson."

Washle pointed out he has to complete his application to West Point before everything is set for National Signing Day, but is excited about the prospect of becoming a Black Knight.

"I was looking to go into the military anyway," he explained. "This way, I'll be able to do that plus get an amazing education. I connected with the coaches and players who are all great guys. When we were leaving West Point, I told my parents this is what I want to do."

The 6-foot-1, 223-pound linebacker was a three year starter for head coach Steven Wright at Cardinal Gibbons, known as Gibbons, a private college-prep Catholic school.

"We went undefeated in the regular season and two deep in the playoffs," Washle stated. "I had a better understanding of the defense this year and was one of the vocal leaders on the team. This year I made first team All-Conference at linebacker. I also played H-back and tight end on offense."

Washle chose Army over a preferred walk-on offer from North Carolina. He plans on spending a year at USMAPS prior to entering the academy.
