Independence, which has won five straight N.C. championships and 77 straight games, will play three-time S.C. 4A Division II champion Byrnes at 6 p.m. Aug. 13 in Polk County's "Border Showcase Jamboree."The jamboree will include teams from both Carolinas that have combined to win more than 20 state titles.

Eric Wallace of Glenn and Tyronnica "Wudi" Alford of Thomasville led a group of four area players named yesterday to The Associated Press all-state basketball teams.

Eric Maynor of Westover and Demetrius Driggers of South Robeson were named to The Associated Press All-State boys' basketball second team Thursday.
