Josh Oglesby, who traveled from Garner (N.C), was clocked at 4.45 seconds and 4.04 seconds in the 40-yard dash and 20-yard shuttle, respectively. He also vertically jumping 31 inches and benching 185 pounds 25 times. The 5-foot-10 ½, 202-pound athlete also looked fluid in defensive back drills, but is mostly being recruited for tailback.
By following up his All-American Combine showing with this performance, it is only a matter of time before Oglesby is extended his first scholarship offer.
Though Oglesby should expect offers in the near future, Daronte McNeil of Elizabeth City (N.C.) Northeastern and Desmond Roberts of Gaston (N.C.) Northampton-West were the lone players in attendance with Division I-A offers on the table, so far. McNeil had a fine day, while Roberts seemed to struggle somewhat.
Measuring in at 6-foot and 220 pounds, McNeil ran a 4.74-second 40-yard dash, and 4.5-second 20-yard shuttle. In one-on-one drills, McNeil showed good hands for a running back. He currently holds offers from the likes of Louisville, East Carolina, and Virginia.
Following recording one of the better 20-yard shuttle times among offensive lineman - 4.99 seconds, Roberts' day fell apart. At 6-foot-3 ½ and 261 pounds, he only recorded two repetitions of 185 pounds, and that lack of strength showed in one-on-one trench drills. However, Roberts was on the mark on every long snap attempt despite the wind factor. Colleges see the potential in Roberts, however, as he has picked up early offers from Virginia Tech, East Carolina, North Carolina, and North Carolina State.
Brandon Miley (6-foot-1 ½, 196 pounds) was easily the best quarterback in attendance. The Wilmington (N.C.) Hoggard product showed nice touch on his passes and the ability to lead his receivers on swing passes and fly routes.
Although classified as a pocket quarterback, Miley timed well in the 20-yard shuttle (4.20 seconds) and 40-yard dash (4.90 seconds). He also rep'd 185 pounds 14 times.
Darren Brown of Jacksonville (N.C.) Southwest Onslow had the best day on the bench press by pushing 185 pounds 34 times.
Next weekend the Shrine Bowl Combine tour will display the talent from the greater Charlotte region when it travels to Matthews.
