While Durham (N.C.) Hillside loses a plethora of talent to graduation, the pain will be eased with the transfer of sophomore sensation Desmond Scott, who will transfer into the school prior to his junior football season.

"The biggest reason is to pursue the IB program," said Tony Scott, Desmond's father. "The IB program is the International Baccalaureate program and it's a rigorous course of study that Hillside offers and it will better prepare him for the college experience."

Scott, a 5-foot-10 175-pound athlete, is currently enrolled at cross-town rival Durham (N.C.) Southern, which does not offer the IB program.

During his sophomore season at Southern, Scott rushed for 1,265 yards and 15 touchdowns and caught 17 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns.

The transfer figures to not only benefit Hillside's football program, but also benefit Scott athletically.

"The support that the football coaches offer over at Hillside is outstanding," said Tony Scott. "They're very supportive of their athletes and they make sure that they're athletes get the recognition that they deserve. They're there trying to get their athletes the exposure that they need."

The Scotts have already contacted Hillside head coach Ray Harrison and offensive coordinator Antonio King about the move.

"Coach King wants to utilize him as an H-back, which is catching the ball and running the ball," said Tony Scott.

Although he's more than a year away from legally receiving official scholarship offers, Scott has already been verbally offered by Clemson, North Carolina, and N.C. State. South Carolina and Alabama are also interested.
