NCHSAA Hall of Fame

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- An event that has become a highlight of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association year is scheduled for Saturday.

The annual NCHSAA Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremonies are set for the George Watts Hill Alumni Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, with dinner starting at 6 p.m.

Honorees at this year's event will include:

• Stuart Allen, long-time coach at Myers Park High School in Charlotte where his track teams won 11 NCHSAA state team championships in 16 years
• Daryl Barnes, current principal at Trinity High School who won five state NCHSAA 4-A championships as Richmond Senior head football coach
• Bob Brooks, long-time coach in several different sports in Elizabeth City before moving into administration
• Bill Carver, outstanding athlete, coach, administrator and game official during his career in Fayetteville
• Elton Hawley, one of the pioneers in sports medicine in North Carolina high school circles who worked for years in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system
• Fred Lanford, an excellent basketball and baseball coach, primarily in Caldwell County, with his teams winning 538 games in baseball
• Bill Rucker, one of the most successful women¹s basketball coaches in North Caroilna high school history with 638 career wins at a number of western North Carolina stops
• Ronald Scott, who coached in five different decades and built a powerful baseball program at Chatham Central, where he won 520 games in that sport

GlaxoSmithKline provided an initial gift to help underwrite the NCHSAA Hall of Fame, enabling it to honor individuals who have spent a lifetime in education. It is one of the Association's most prestigious accolades.

The NCHSAA Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to high school athletics in North Carolina. This marks the 21st induction class for the NCHSAA Hall of Fame, which now numbers 110. Each new inductee will be introduced by a special video presentation and will receive a commemorative NCHSAA Hall of Fame ring in honor of the induction.

"We hope that these communities would really turn out to support these great individuals who have meant so much to so many people," said Charlie Adams, NCHSAA executive director. "The Hall of Fame ceremonies have evolved into a special event and it is a great opportunity for former players and other supporters of these honorees to get together."
